Programs at Pine Hill Country Day School

Pine Hill Peewees: Twos and Threes Not Yet Toilet Trained

Toddlers aged two years old by November 1st are eligible for the peewee class. Three year olds not yet fully toilet trained will be in this room as well. When a child is both three years old and toilet trained, he may enter the larger preschool population. Regardless of age, however, the staff must be the final arbiters as to readiness for the larger population. Please note: the peewees room will not house baby toys! Appropriate academic games/centers will be used, in effect becoming a "miniature Pine Hill".

Bunnies

Children not yet three years old by August 1st but by November 1st and toilet trained are included in the multi- age population. Peewees moving into the larger population become "bunnies" as well. Second year bunnies are known as "Rabbits", those children not yet four years old by August 1st, but who have already spent one year in school as bunnies.

Preschool

Children age four by August 1st are eligible for preschool in the multi-age classroom. (Three, four, and five year olds are together.)

Kindergarten Prep

This program is for the child not quite ready for kindergarten. Kindergarten activities and worksheets are used but not as fast or as often as in kindergarten.

Kindergarten

This program is generally for children turning five years old by August 1st, but we will consider taking children who don't meet the deadline after careful consideration among the staff. Kindergartners are housed in the same room with Kindergarten II and first grade students, making it the third of our multi-age populations.

Kindergarten II

This program is for the child not quite ready for first grade. First grade activities and worksheets are used but not as fast or as often as in first grade.

First Grade

Children age six years old by August 1st are eligible for this grade. We will take into account each individual child's special abilities, experiences, and talents and, if necessary, introduce second grade work. Readers (books) will reflect the individual child's ability and she may read vertically (upper grade books/chapter books) as her ability dictates.
